Proof from the practices we serve

CASE STUDY · JULY 2026

When the ATO came reviewing, the workpapers answered

ATO COMPLIANCE & QUALITY CONTROL REVIEW · ETERNITY GROUP ACCOUNTANTS
01
The review lands

In July 2026, Eternity Group Accountants, a chartered accounting practice, underwent an ATO compliance and quality control review: the moment every principal quietly prepares for, when the practice’s records must speak for themselves. The meeting was conducted in a constructive and professional manner.

02
What was in place

For every job Venus prepares, the standard is the same: complete workpapers, supporting records referenced to source, and documentation checked by a Senior Review Manager before anything reaches the practice. Not built for audits, built for every day, which is what makes them ready when a review comes.

03
The outcome

The practice’s records demonstrated the work undertaken, and the documentation played its part in protecting both the practice and its tax agent registration. The records held.

The quality of the workpapers, supporting records and documentation helped demonstrate the work undertaken by the firm and assisted in protecting both the practice and its tax agent registration.

“Thank you… for the outstanding level of work, care and support provided.”

CASE STUDY · CLIENT SINCE YEAR ONE

The long game of a dedicated offshore team

BOUTIQUE PRACTICE · SYDNEY, NSW · THE PEN ACCOUNTING SERVICES PTY LTD
01
The client
A boutique accounting practice in Sydney with a growing client base and a reputation built on service quality. Growth was the good problem; staffing it was the real one.
02
The challenge
Recruiting experienced local accountants was slow, retention was fragile and the cost of onshore hiring kept climbing while the client list kept growing. In Kirsty’s words: “we found it difficult to recruit and retain experienced local accountants.” The practice needed capacity quickly, without letting quality slip an inch, and it did not want a vendor. It wanted a partner.
03
The approach
Venus placed a dedicated team inside The Pen’s systems, working to the practice’s standards and templates, with the same people on the same files year after year. Jay worked alongside the practice to design its workpaper processes before much of that documentation became automated, systems that still underpin the practice. The output speaks in review time: “The files are well documented, easy to review and prepared to a consistently high standard, allowing us to focus our time on reviewing and advising our clients rather than reworking files.”
04
The stress test
The pandemic hit every Australian practice at once: stimulus measures, support grants, clients in genuine distress. The dedicated model proved itself under load, with Venus working beside The Pen through the rollout at the busiest moment the profession has faced. “They were genuinely invested in helping both our practice and our clients succeed.”
05
The results
With production carried by a trusted team, the principals moved their own hours to advisory, strategic planning and higher value client work, and the practice grew on the back of that shift. “That shift has been instrumental in the growth of our practice.” The strongest metric is the simplest one: seven years on, the partnership is still running, and still growing.

Quite simply, we would not be where we are today without Jay and the Venus team. They are truly part of The Pen family, and the relationship has always felt like a genuine partnership.

“They are an extension of our Sydney office rather than an outsourced provider.”

What started as an accounting relationship developed into a genuine business partnership. As our business became larger and more complex, Venus continued to evolve with us.

When I look back at the journey of Smart Super Management, there are certain relationships that stand out as being instrumental to where the business is today. One of those relationships is with Venus Accountants.

From the very beginning, Venus made what could have been a complicated and overwhelming process feel incredibly simple.

Starting and growing a business comes with enough challenges of its own. There are systems to establish, processes to understand, clients to manage and countless decisions to make. What I appreciated from the outset was that Venus Accountants understood that and made the onboarding process straightforward, efficient and convenient.

They didn’t make things unnecessarily complicated. They listened, understood what we were trying to achieve and put the right processes in place to help us move forward with confidence.

As Smart Super Management grew, so did our relationship with Venus.

What started as an accounting relationship developed into a genuine business partnership. As our business became larger and more complex, Venus continued to evolve with us. They were there to help us navigate the next stage, answer questions when we needed them and provide the support and structure that allowed us to focus on what we do best — looking after our clients and growing the business.

One of the things I value most is the trust that has developed between us over the years. You don’t build that overnight. It comes from consistently delivering, being available when needed and knowing that the people supporting your business genuinely care about its success.

Their contribution has been more than simply preparing accounts or handling the numbers. They have been part of our journey.

They have helped make the financial and administrative side of running a growing business easier, allowing us to spend more time concentrating on our clients, our team and our vision for the future.

The biggest testament to our relationship is that we have grown together.

As Smart Super Management has developed, our relationship with Venus has developed alongside it. We’ve built a level of familiarity and trust where they understand our business, understand where we’ve come from and, importantly, understand where we’re trying to go.

That makes a huge difference.

Business growth is never achieved by one person or one organisation alone. It’s built through strong people, strong systems and strong relationships. Venus Accountants has been an important part of that for us.

From making the very first steps simple and convenient, through to supporting us as we’ve grown into the business we are today, Venus has been there throughout the journey.

I’m incredibly grateful for the role they have played in our success and for the relationship we have built along the way.

And perhaps most importantly, this doesn’t feel like the end of the journey.

It feels like we’re only getting started.

I look forward to continuing to grow Smart Super Management alongside Venus Accountants and seeing just how far we can take it together.
